My new coat 04/30/14

Hi pals, Coco Rose here...

During the winter months, my humans allow my hair to grow long but because I don't like to be groomed it also gets matted.  Momma couldn't stand it any longer and took the clippers to it so now I am almost bald.  The day momma shaved my beautiful hair off, it was nice and sunny so she thought the worst of the coldness was over.  Little did she know it is still cold in the early morning hours and we did have that surprise snow fall also.  Need I tell everyone that not having any hair made me COLD?

Momma felt bad so she decided to make me a coat that I could sleep in and keep warm...

Here is the material momma chose for my coat.

The colorful flower material is cotton then there is a layer of batting and the orange fabric is flannel - got to have nice soft material against my skin...

Momma quilted all of the layers together on the sewing machine...

She used a decorative scallop stitch to do the quilting...

Then she cut out the pattern...

Momma used bias tape to sew around the edges so it would look pretty...

Instead of using Velcro at the neck opening, momma sewed the two parts together since I don't like the sound of Velcro opening.  I just have to slip my head through the opening...

Momma did use Velcro at the opening around my tummy area...

Here I am modeling my new coat.  It's a little big around the tummy and could have been a little shorter but it will keep my nice and warm...

Hugs and kisses,

Crazy weather 04/26/14

Hi Pals, Coco Rose and Puff Darby here...

We had some real crazy weather come through yesterday.  The humans had gone to Albuquerque the day before and it was sunny and warm (78 degrees).  This morning we woke up and it was sunny but suddenly, we got high winds blowing through - you should have seen the trees swaying.  As the winds blew, the sun went away and was replaced by hail and snow.

This is a picture of the area where the tree branches were cleared away.  Momma took this photo right before the humans left for Albuquerque.  Some clouds in the distance but it was nice and warm.  No hint of the storm to come...

Hail is covering the yard...

Puffy and I were told we had to go outside to do our business - neither one of us wanted to go...

The yard is now covered with snow but that didn't stop the freeloaders from showing up for a bite to eat.

Anyhow, we had high winds, hail and snow.  Everything would have been pretty nice because we were home in a nice warm house but around 3PM, we lost all electrical power and that meant we had no heat.  Momma had tried to convince daddy that he should put in a pellet heat source but he didn't think he needed to do that with the furnace.   The good news is that the electricity came back on around 6PM so everything was back to normal.

It's still lightly snowing so we are going to snuggle in bed.

Hugs and kisses,

Locked up again 04/25/14

Hi pals, Coco Rose and Puff Darby here...

The daddy wanted to go to Albuquerque so momma took us pups outside to do our business and then brought us back into the house and put the baby gate across the doorway so we had to stay in the big bedroom while they were gone.  Of course momma put down three wee-wee pads just in case one or both of us had to do our business while they were gone.

It takes a little more than two hours to travel one way to Albuquerque and then because daddy was looking for some furniture for the home theater it took them forever to drive around, have lunch, and do their shopping.  They left around 8AM and didn't get back home until after 6PM.  Momma has actually stopped buying the doggy wee-wee pads and instead is now buying human wee-wee pads that are supposed to be used for protecting beds of humans that piddle because she says they are stronger and don't leak like the doggy wee-wee pads, plus they are bigger.  We used one of the wee-wee pads while they were gone so clean up was a breeze when the humans came home, which made momma very happy.

One of the things momma wanted to get while in the "BIG CITY" was a new pooper scooper so while momma went into the QUILT WORKS store, daddy went across the street to a pet supply place and bought a really big one.  Momma tried to tell us that was a present for us but heck, what dog in it's right mind would consider a pooper scooper a "present"?  They could have brought us some new treats or stuffies which we really would have enjoyed, but instead, we got a new pooper scooper.  Something stinks here and it isn't our poop.

Getting ready for fire season 04/23/14

Hi pals, Coco Rose and Puffy here,

We had a busy day today because daddy hires some people to come over to our place and trim some of the many trees around our place.  The community we live in suggests land owners trim back the vegetation so if a fire should come through there would be less dried fuel around.  We have so many trees that it would take weeks to trim them all so daddy told the workers to start with the vegetation that is right around the house and we will work outwards towards the rest.

Of course Puffy and I had to bark and bark at the workers.  I got to go outside and bark right at them, but Puffy wasn't allowed because he gets super excited and tries to bite so he had to stay in the house with momma - BOL.

The area that they cleared looks real good but they took all the dead branches and stacked them instead of using the chipper to break them down.

Momma said she would try to get pictures tomorrow...

Happy Easter 04/19/20

Hi pals, Coco Rose here...

This will be our first Easter without our bunny sister Arleenton.

That's me trying to get Arleenton to play tag with me but she was an old bunny (14 years old) and didn't really feel like play at the time.  Arleenton passed away shortly after this photo was taken.  I really miss my bunny sister as she was a lot of fun to play with.

Now, I have to wear the bunny ears...

And so does Puffy...

The humans won't let us play with the outside bunnies...

But sometimes they leave bunny treats for us to find which are quite yummy.

Happy Easter to everyone.

Hugs and kisses,
Coco Rose

Bad hair day or... 04/18/14

Am I having a bad hair day, or am I just electrifying?

OMD - Nudges 04/17/14

Hi pals, Coco Rose here...

The humans went to Grants so momma could see if they had any NUDGES treats that Puffy and I love.  The trip to Grants is about 65 miles, one way, so it isn't something they do often.  Also, the Walmart store there is really small so they don't necessarily carry everything that can be found in the Walmart store located in Gallup.  However, they also don't have as many people shopping there so it is easy to get in and out much faster than the store in Gallup.

Puffy and I had to stay in the big bedroom all day while the humans were gone but boy was it worth it...

Get away from there Puffy, those are MINE!

The humans came home with FOUR 18 oz. bags of Nudges!  They also found other treats for me so it looks like I will have treats for at least one week.

I hope the Easter bunny brings me more.

Hugs and kisses,

Coco Rose

I am NOT a hoarder 04/16/14

Hi pals, Puff Darby here...

I want everyone here to know that I am a serious stuffie collector - I am NOT a hoarder!

This is my empty stuffie basket - Where did all my stuffies go??

Someone dumped my stuffies on the floor...

Maybe I'll play with this one...

I'll decide after I eat my duck strip...

Oops, got a piece of duck strip hanging out of my mouth...

Now back to picking out a stuffie to play with...

I see one of my favorite stuffies hiding...

I wonder what else I can find in here...

Momma - I don't have anything to play with - BOL

Oh what a mess 04/12/14

Hi pals, Puff Darby here...

As most of your know we live in a rural area which means the humans only go do major grocery shopping once a month since the store is over 50 miles away (one way).  Since our pantry was getting quite bare and Coco and I were out of dog treats, the humans went to town and re-stocked our shelves.

We were quite lucky that there were two lone NUDGES dog treats on the grocery shelf so momma nabbed them both for us.  This time they were the hickory smoked bacon flavor and let me tell you, we loved them!!!  Too bad it was only the small 3 once packages because that isn't going to last us very long at all.  Momma checked on the internet to see if Petco or Pet Smart had them and as of yet, neither of them carry these yummy treats.  She did find them on Amazon but the vendors selling them are exploiting their customers by over charging big time.   One vendor at Amazon was charging $`14,95 for a three oz. package of Nudges but they would give you free shipping if you spent more than $35 dollars worth of product!!!!  At Wal Mart, a 3 oz package of Nudges cost less than 3 dollars so that is quite a profit the vendor at Amazon is hoping to make.  There were other enterprising vendors at Amazon who were charging between $45 and 50 dollars for two 10 oz. or 18 oz. product which only cost about $13 dollars at Walmart (for one package).  Needless to say, the humans didn't order any NUDGES off the internet and instead have told us they will make a trip to the Wal Mart in Grants this coming week to pick up some supplies and will make sure they check the pet food section to see if they can find any packages of our new favorite treats there.

Anyhoodle, I got a little distracted from telling you what happened when the humans got home from their shopping trip.  Coco and I were made to stay in the big bedroom while they were gone and we were very good.  There were no "surprises" left on the floor, or any place else for that matter, which made momma real happy.  Once a month shopping takes hours and fills up the grocery cart to over flowing.  Momma gets very tired and really doesn't like struggling with the cart.  Daddy usually takes off to go to Home Depot so he can avoid being sent all over the grocery store to pick up items that momma wants.  One of the items momma did picked up was a small bottle of nail polish in a lovely copper color.  When daddy came back to Wal Mart, momma was in line paying for the groceries and just wanted to go sit down someplace.  After the groceries were put in the truck, daddy drove home which takes over one hours and then it was time to take all of the groceries out of the truck and into the house.

Momma helped daddy bring in the groceries and then started putting them away.  Coco and I were allowed outside in the front to do our business and check out what was in all of the bags that daddy was putting on the floor.  As momma was putting things away, she lifted out the nail polish and somehow managed to drop it on the kitchen floor tile.  OMD!!!!  The bottle broke and nail polish went flying everywhere.  All over momma, the kitchen tiles, on the white kitchen cabinets, the countertops and oven.  Daddy came in carrying some more packages and momma asked him to take Coco and me and put us back into the big bedroom before we walked in the nail polish.  Momma went to the laundry room and grabbed the mop and tried to soak up the mess but all it did was smear it around and ruin the mop head.  Now remember momma was already very tired from all of the shopping and all she wanted to do was lay down for a bit but now she had to clean up the terrible mess that was in the kitchen.  Daddy went into the garage/workshop and came back with a huge can of acetone which cleaned up the floors nicely.  It also cleaned everything else up without causing any damage.

After everything was cleaned up, momma came and took a nap with us and I think she deserved it too!  Now please pass me a NUDGES and lets forget all about the "nail polish incident" okay?

Nasty brown squirrel 04/06/14

Hi pals, Coco Rose here.

Nothing much going on down our way.  It was over cast today but no rain came.  This afternoon the sun came out so Puffy and I watched the freeloaders come and eat the seeds that momma put out for them.  We now have four cotton tails, five chipmunks, three gray squirrels and about five brown squirrels that show up regularly for a free meal.  One of the brown squirrels brought a baby squirrel with it and everything was just fine until a different brown squirrel showed up and decided to attack the poor little baby squirrel.  The baby ran off and momma or daddy squirrel took off after the brown squirrel that started the fight.  A few minutes later the baby squirrel was back snacking on apple pieces like nothing even happened.

We went for a short truck ride down to the cluster mailboxes and a Jackrabbit crossed in front of the truck and appeared to be having problems walking.  These are wild animals so the humans didn't stop to see if the Jackrabbit needed help.  The rodent family population here is known to carry fleas and ticks that harbor illness that even humans can catch so it is best to watch them from a distance and not handle them in any manner.

Other than this, it was a very boring day.

Hugs and kisses,

Coco Rose

Crazy weather 04/04/14

Hi pals - Coco Rose here.

We woke up yesterday morning to find it snowing outside.  Yup, ole Mother Nature decided to send some much needed moisture our way.  It wasn't much, but when the vegetation is as dry as ours is, we will take anything she has to offer.  In between the snow, she sent us some hail also.  Too bad nothing stuck and today you can't even see any on the ground.

Yup, snow....

The snow didn't stop the freeloaders from dropping by...

Snow is already melting...

Would anyone like to sit down?

Puff and I took advantage of the snow and decided it would be best to stay under covers in the nice big and warm bed - BOL.  We did get up long enough to go for a short truck ride down to the cluster mailboxes and for some reason, Puffy whined most of the way.  He wanted to go for the ride and then he complained.  Momma said he was whining because he wanted to drive the truck.  Daddy said he didn't care why Puffy was whining and he would be sure NOT to take him again if this is the way he was going to act.  Me, I sat nice and didn't say one word.

Hugs and kisses,

Coco Rose
