Hi pals, Coco Rose here.
The sun was beginning to set in the sky and we had just finished eating dinner when momma asked daddy if we were going to go to the mail box (the cluster mail box is about 2 miles from home). Daddy asked if momma was expecting something and she is, as she ordered some sewing stuff from one of the catalog companies so Puffy and I got to go along for the ride and guess what we saw? Right up the road from our house there were four huge elk! All were bucks but they proved to be camera shy and the humans weren't able to get pictures of them. Right down the road from where the elks were we saw a herd of deer.
Here is the first herd of deer seen.
These are the same deer as above only on a closer view.
The one deer was just as interested in us as we were in it - BOL, BOL
Here is yet another herd of deer.
Here is the third herd of deer spotted. This photo is a little blurry but you can still see there are deer in the photo.
Maybe tomorrow the humans will go sit down by where the elk were spotted and wait for them to come back - it's worth a try because momma wants to get a photo of them.
Hugs and kisses,
Coco Rose
Those look like mule deer... hope you gets a pic of the elks in the future.
ReplyDeleteI think you are correct - Mule deer. Need to get a picture of those elk - they are so pretty and BIG but boy can they move!
ReplyDeleteIt woud be neat to see those elk!
ReplyDeleteYou have to be carefur in your area it seems...don't wanna have a deer vehicle encounter.
In our county,we have the infamous description of being one of the highest deer/vehicle encounterings in our state...sigh...you betcha...pawppy hit one, unfurbro hit 2 and growlmy has missed by hairs a few of those rascals!
We hardly ever see the Elk but the four we saw yesterday seem to hang around in the same area. Momma is going to try to get a picture of them today. The deer and elk come running right out into the road so caution needs to be used however sometimes they just can't be avoided and accidents do happen. Those elk we saw yesterday were HUGE and hitting one of them could cause lots of damage - YIKES! I hope no one in your family was hurt when they hit those deer. Did you get to keep the meat afterwards?
DeleteNo kidding! No we were not hurt in any of those 'encounters' but the vehicles had to be in the car hospital to get rehabbed, BOL! When unfur hit those 2 deer, it was at the same time, a whole bunch just decided to get on the highway all at once:(
DeleteLiving rurally has some issues...
No we were not in the butchering mode then, nor now fur that matter...though sometimes we do see peeps picking up fresh RK.
We saw some elk once when traveling on Highway 89A in Arizona... at furst, Momma thought "horse" cuz she is a Texas girl, bol, then she realized dat weren't no horse, it wuz a girl elk... and dere wuz about a dozen more girl elk and a big old dude... he had a whole harem!
ReplyDeleteThe day momma was following daddy down to New Mexico - daddy was driving a UHAUL truck and momma was driving daddy's truck, it was late at night and dark when all of a sudden a elk ran right in front of the truck daddy was driving. Momma only saw a flash of something huge running across the road - it looked like a ghost.
DeleteYeah, dose elkses are huge!! I barks da deers I sees when I go visitin da Nana and Pawpaw (momma's grandparents).
ReplyDeleteWe bark at everything possible but haven't actually barked at the deer yet. Coco likes to eat the deer droppings - yuck!
DeleteMJF *loves* to roll in those!
DeleteDid ya bark 'em up real good? Agreed, mule deeres there. I gots the white tails to bark at. Their tails go up when they run, all's ya see is white butt and wavin tail. Bol!
ReplyDeleteThe deer look funny when the run because they actually hop/spring as they run. For as big as they are, they sure have no problems running. You need to come down here and show us how to bark at the deer - okay?
DeleteThose are definitely mule deer. We usually see lots of white tailed deer in our area, but the mule deer are slowly moving in. We have a moose in our area and he is huge. Ran across the road in front of dad's car! Luckily dad saw it and was able to stop in time. Looking forward to seeing a picture of those elk!
ReplyDeleteA moose - Awesome!!! Well unless you just happen to get in it's way. Glad your daddy was able to avoid hitting it. If there is one moose one would expect there to be more someplace close?

ReplyDeleteOh, hi! 'Scuse me, bud I neber ged tu bark at big stuff wike deerz so I wosed my mind dere fur jus' a minit!!
Bark all you want but I don't think it would have any effect of them should you actually come face to face with one - they are HUGE and right now the males have racks on their heads that can do lots of damage.
DeleteCrikey and you blokes think I lead an exciting life. Sure would like to run after those blokes. Are they mean if you catch them??? Deer poop, aye?? I LOVE Roo poop. Guess it would be similar. Don't waste your time rolling in it Mr. MJF, Sir .... Just eat it. Deicious!!
ReplyDeleteFound lots of deer or elk poop in the back lots (sorry we really don't know our deer poop from elk poop) - maybe we can do a poop exchange? Just think of all the fun it would be trying to get poop through customs - BOL, BOL
DeleteHmmm, I shall have to remember that eating bit next time a juicy pile crosses my path...but it IS fun to roll in, so that my true odor is rendered to Deer doo-doo instead...like camoflauge...elk doo-poo sounds good too.
DeleteGoats make stuff too, and I DO eat that, but nevfur have had desire to roll in it...bunnies make yummy candies too!
I LOVE bunny droppings and we have lots of fresh ones outside just laying there for the taking.
DeleteI can't tell deer poop from elk poop. Beginning to wonder if they both look the same. One would think elk poop would be bigger but obviously I'm no poop expert - BOL
